Tim Walz stops at longtime Wilmington burger restaurant before rally

Co-owners Wendy Fincher-Hughes and Owen Hughes of Winnie’s Tavern said they were excited to welcome Gov. Tim Walz to their business Thursday evening.

Alongside the National Service Leaders for America, Walz made a visit to the tavern prior to his rally at Greenfield Lake Amphitheater.

Fischer-Hughes said she’s proud of her restaurant, adding that she advocates that all of her staff exercise their right to vote regardless of their party affiliation.

Inside of the restaurant, a few members of the rally were seen eating. They included the chair of the New Hanover County Democratic Party, Jill Hopman, and Stephanie Walker, a member of the New Hanover County Board of Education and candidate for the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners, among others.
