Voters of all ages are turning out in droves across the Wilmington area. Included is a surge of younger voters, many of them at the polls for the first time.
While this election may be some people’s 18th time voting or more, one North Brunswick High School senior is working the polls and casting her first ballot for her 18th birthday.
Rebeca Sanchez is spending her birthday at the Leland Cultural Arts Center on Election Day after voting early on Saturday.
“I feel like this is one of the biggest elections there has been,” Sanchez said.
While deciding her vote, Sanchez said she thought about what she thinks is right for the people. She plans to stay in tune with what’s going on in local and general elections in the future.
“I wasn’t planning on being here, but I’m happy to be here,” the senior said.
For Cassidy Buchanan, a sophomore at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, she spent her first voting experience Tuesday in a line among 250 fellow students at the school’s Warwick Center.
