Of Cinematique, ‘Outer Banks’ and other things connected to Wilmington

Most weeks, when there’s a movie at Thalian Hall in downtown Wilmington, I’ll go.

Last night, for example, I went and saw “The Outrun,” a moving, beautifully made and decently attended film starring Saoirse Ronan as a young woman trying to bounce back from an alcoholic spiral by retreating to the wilds of Scotland’s Orkney Islands.

I knew nothing about “The Outrun” going in, but checking out films in the Cinematique series, which has been running at Thalian Hall since 1996 , is almost always a good move. Next up in the series is “Lee” starring Kate Winslet Nov. 11-13, and “Saturday Night” Dec. 16-18.

Now let’s see what’s going down in Wilmington this weekend.

Weekend weather outlook

Well, it’ll be mostly warm this weekend, I’ll say that. Humid and overcast on Friday and Sunday, with a slight chance of rain both days and highs in the mid to upper 70s. We’ll get a brief respite on Saturday, when it’ll be mostly sunny, a high near 70, and lows dipping down into the 50s.
