Lanes to living: Development coming to former Wilmington bowling alley site

What was formerly the site of a popular Wilmington bowling alley in midtown Wilmington might soon transform into living spaces.

Plans have been submitted to redevelop the property at 3907 Shipyard Boulevard, a large site along one of the Port City’s well-traveled roadways.

The Shipyard Apartments project is currently under review, according to the city’s communications office.

Who owns the property?

The Shipyard Boulevard property is currently under the ownership of Oleander Company Inc., with registered agent Nelson MacRae. The project applicant is listed as Shipyard Apartments LLC, managed by registered agent Robert J. Hollis of Wilmington’s Tribute Companies.

Sold on April 9, the current tax value of the property is approximately $6.4 million, according to the city’s development tracker.

What was formerly on site?

For nearly five decades, the site along Shipyard Boulevard was home to the Cardinal Lanes Bowling Alley. Though, in May 2023, the bowling alley closed its doors , and the building was subsequently demolished.
