Wilmington firefighters now using PFAS-free gear

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – A change is coming to the Wilmington Fire Department (WFD) in hopes improve the quality of health for its firefighters. According to the WFD, the incoming recruit class will be first to use new fluorine-free moisture barrier turnout gear. Gear for all firefighters will eventually be replaced to be free of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).
