A 71-year-old man has died after a hit-and-run incident on Saturday night along the 600 block of South College Road in Wilmington.
The victim, Stephen Ross, 71, died from injuries inflicted by the incident on Monday, according to a news release from the Wilmington Police Department.
Ross was attempting to cross the street when he was struck by a vehicle driven by 19-year-old Thomas Murray, according to the release.
Murray fled the scene and was detained by New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office deputies off of Bayshore Drive a short time later. His charges include felony hit-and-run death and driving while license revoked not impaired.
“This is an ongoing investigation, and our prayers and condolences go out to Ross’ friends and family during this difficult time,” the release stated.
