First Alert Forecast: mild ahead of next rain & storm system

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Great to see you on this Saturday! The Lower Cape Fear Region is poised for a run deep into the 70s this weekend, with some inland zones tagging 80 and middle 70s along the coast amid variable clouds and sun. Burning once again is not allowed across the Carolinas, given the extremely dry conditions and ease of spread for any loose flame.

After that, be alert for welcome rain chances: 20% for spotty Sunday showers, 40% Sunday night and Monday and 60+% Monday night for additional gusty thunderstorms, especially late. The SPC has placed a large swath of the eastern United states under a “Slight” risk for severe weather with damaging winds bring the primary threat. Worth keeping an eye on, given the time of day, and many factors that could keep storms below “severe” strength.

A quick peak at the Azalea Festival forecast for late next week into next weekend shows we should see warm highs in the lower 80s with low to medium rain chances…
