Flash Flood and Severe Storm Potential Shifts to Mid-Atlantic and Appalachians

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — After days of destructive rainfall across the Mississippi Valley, the storm system has shifted east, bringing dangerous conditions to parts of the East Coast and Mid-Atlantic, according to the National Weather Service’s Weather Prediction Center.

On Sunday, areas from the Central and Southern Appalachians to the Southeast, including parts of Virginia, North Carolina, and Georgia, face heavy rainfall and flash flooding threats. The Storm Prediction Center has issued a Slight Risk (level 2/4) for parts of these regions.

Severe storms, including damaging winds and possible tornadoes, are expected across the southern Mid-Atlantic, especially in southeast Virginia.
