“I’m paying for something I’m not getting”: Oak Island property owners push to de-annex from town

OAK ISLAND, N.C. (WECT) – Oak Island Town Council met on Tuesday and voted to oppose House Bill 338 which would deannex 11 properties from the town.

Those 11 property owners from the Oakwood Glen neighborhood are pushing to be exempt from paying city taxes and following town rules and ordinances. The owners claim they pay taxes to the town but aren’t receiving any of the benefits.

Their question remains: “What are they doing or me?”…
