New Hanover school board censures member over classroom pride flag support

WILMINGTON, NC The New Hanover County Board of Education voted to censure a board member at a special meeting on Friday, April 11.

Board member Tim Merrick was censured, or formally reprimanded, during a two-hour meeting that drew more than 150 people.

Merrick faced censure for “responding to a concerned faculty member who reached out in fear of potential persecution — simply for displaying a small, two-inch pride flag in their classroom,” according to a statement from the New Hanover County Democratic Party…
