Inmate escapes after assaulting officer at Lumberton hospital

LUMBERTON — An inmate that escaped custody while at UNC Southeastern Medical Center has been apprehended, according to the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office.

Randal Ray Cummings, 32, of Suggs Road, Lumberton was arrested in the area of Clybourn Church Road., Lumberton, according to the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office.

“Thank you to the citizens that assisted law enforcement this morning by providing valuable information leading to the escaped inmates capture,” stated Sheriff Burnis Wilkins. “We have begun our investigation as to how this occurred and will make corrective measures if necessary”…
