Officers at NC coast forced to remove ‘large alligator’ from back yard; 2nd gator removal in 3 weeks

SOUTHPORT, N.C. (WNCN) — Just a few days after police at the North Carolina coast had to stop an alligator from climbing a fence and heading for traffic, Southport officers had to remove a “large alligator” from a home’s backyard.

Less than three weeks ago, police in the small Brunswick County town had to wrangle a small alligator who had climbed a fence and was trying to go toward a busy road, according to the Southport Police Department.

Over the weekend, police were called to a more relaxed — but much larger — alligator in the street on West 11th Street.

By the time police responded to the 7 a.m. Sunday call, the up to 14-foot gator was in the backyard of a home on the same street near Caswell Ave.

The homeowner was told about the gator, and North Carolina Wildlife officials were contacted…
