A 150-acre plot of land in northern Brunswick County has sat abandoned and contaminated for decades.
The Kerr-McGee Superfund site in Navassa sits vacant after a company used the area for nearly 40 years. Federal agencies and local communities are working to restore and clean up the property, one unit at a time.
While those efforts have been tedious at best, it hasn’t dampened optimism for what could be next for the land: an homage to Navassa’s heritage.
