Tips on staying safe while swimming at home

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – According to the U.S. Consumer and Product Safety Commission (CPSC), hundreds of children die every year from drownings in home pools or spas, and an average of 6,500 have to take trips to the emergency room.

Parents and pool owners can help save a child’s life by remembering to make water safety a priority.

“If your kid is not a strong swimmer, sending them with a U.S. Coast Guard-approved flotation device is super important. Making sure kids know not to dive in pools because they never know how deep it is,” said Lindey Hays, Director of Aquatic Safety at the YMCA…
