SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — The City of Southport is urging residents and visitors to plan ahead for road closures, detours and traffic pattern changes tied to the NC 4th of July festival.
As thousands are expected to visit for the parade and fireworks, the Southport Police Department has announced a series of traffic control measures to keep vehicles moving and the streets safe.
Post-Fireworks Traffic Plan
Following the fireworks show on Friday, North Howe Street will be temporarily converted to two outbound lanes to help ease congestion. The center turn lane will be used as the second lane. Only one lane will be open for traffic entering the city.
Officers will be stationed at multiple points along the route to help direct drivers and ensure safety.
- The right outbound lane will serve traffic heading toward N.C. 133, Boiling Spring Lakes, and Leland.
- The left outbound lane will be designated for traffic going to RiverMist, Oak Island, St. James, and Bolivia.
Additional traffic changes include:
- Moore Street will remain closed between Ferry Road and Turtlewood Drive. Outbound traffic will be rerouted left onto Park Avenue, right on Leonard Street, and left on Rob Gandy Boulevard to reach River Road (N.C. 133).
- Jabbertown Road and Dosher Cut-Off Road will be restricted to local residents only.
