WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Bill Saffo, the longest-serving mayor in the City of Wilmington’s history, filed to run for reelection Monday as the candidate filing period opened for the 2025 Municipal Elections in North Carolina.
Saffo, who is currently serving his ninth full term, will be challenged by Jonathan Barfield, the former chairman of the New Hanover County Commissioners. Barfield also filed at the Board of Elections office when the filing period opened at Noon.
Three seats on Wilmington City Council will be on the ballot in the November election. Incumbent councilman Clifford Barnett filed to run for a third term on Monday. Two other candidates, Richard Collier and Cassidy Santaguida, also filed to run for council…
