WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Statistically, mid-July is the pinnacle of Wilmington’s temperature averages, with highs averaging 90.2 degrees and lows averaging 73.2 degrees. Seasonable and unsettled weather continues through the rest of the weekend and next week. Most days will feature highs in the lower 90s with scattered showers and storms developing, mostly in the afternoon and evening. Heat index values will top out above 100. Scattered storms continue into the new week as highs dip a little back into the 80s.

A broad area of low pressure could take on tropical characteristics in the coming days in the northern Gulf or near Florida. This area has low development odds over the next three to seven days. The rip current risk will likely hover in the low to moderate realm through the weekend, so be safe at the beach while enjoying everything summer has to offer.
