“It’s about confidence”: Wilmington camp helps kids with disabilities learn life-saving water skills

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – The fifth annual week-long ICan Shine Swim camp is helping over 20 kids with disabilities learn lifesaving water skills at the YWCA Lower Cape Fear in Wilmington.

According to the National Drowning Prevention Alliance, children with autism and intellectual disabilities are at a higher risk of drowning.

The camp focuses on teaching kids techniques like floating, blowing bubbles and simply staying calm in the water, all of which can save their lives…
