Step Up for a Cause: 50-For’s 50-Mile Walking Challenge

Fitness and philanthropy come together at 50-For, a 50-mile walking challenge where anyone can walk for the cause that is dearest to them.

Is there a cause or mission that strikes you so deeply, that you must materialize your passion in some way?

That is exactly what Wrightsville Beach resident Justin Cyrus is doing. Committed to the community and bringing awareness to causes that people are passionate about, he had the idea for the 50-For 50-mile walking challenge.

When Cyrus created the challenge in 2021, it was as a 50-mile walk for the Parkinson’s Foundation. His father was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2011, and Cyrus was fueled by his enthusiasm to bring awareness to the disease and the efforts to find a cure.

“With this disease, it is very much a step-by-step, day-by-day process of just waking up optimistic then battling through whatever comes and trying to navigate life,” Cyrus says, “and that’s pretty much what the walk symbolizes. It’s step by step, day by day, improving as you go.”…
