First Alert Forecast: stressful heat wave to linger for days

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Your First Alert Forecast broils as a strong high pressure ridge pushes highs in the 90s to near 100, challenging records and promoting “feels like” temperatures north of 105 and 110 across the weekend through early next week. While summer heat waves are not uncommon, the magnitude and duration will make heat precautions imperative. Extra considerations should be given for the elderly, children, those without air conditioning, expecting and of course, your four-legged friends during peak heating hours.

WX ALERT: Extreme Heat Warning will be in effect from 11 a.m. Saturday to 8 p.m. Sunday. Heat index values may exceed 110 and pose a danger to humans and animals. Stay hydrated and inside air conditioning during the hottest part of the day. #WECTwx#ILMwxpic.twitter.com/HRTAkwv5OY

Chances for passing showers and storms will be at a minimum through this time, with relief coming to only a lucky few backyards. A low to moderate rip current risk at most Cape Fear beaches will ride through the weekend along the scorching sandy shores and the 80+ degree surf.
