Lake City Man Charged with Desecration After Investigators Find Body in Home

A search for two missing individuals from North Carolina took a grim turn this week, culminating in the discovery of a dismembered body and the arrest of a Lake City man. Charles Edward Antwine, 50, has been charged with desecration of human remains following a multi-agency investigation that began with a missing persons report from Brunswick County, North Carolina.

The case began last week when relatives reported both Christy Thomas Ward and Antwine missing from their North Carolina home. The search efforts led authorities to Florence County, South Carolina, where an investigation by the Florence County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) ultimately led to the gruesome discovery.

The initial break in the case came on June 14, 2025, when an FCSO patrol deputy checking the Lynches River boat landing at Riverside Cemetery spotted a vehicle partially submerged in the water.
