Flood Watch Issued for Parts of Eastern North Carolina Through Monday Evening

Wilmington, NC – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Wilmington has issued an updated flood watch for portions of Eastern North Carolina that will remain in effect until 6 p.m. Monday.

Areas Under the Flood Watch

The advisory covers Inland New Hanover, Coastal New Hanover, Inland Brunswick, Coastal Brunswick, and Columbus County. The NWS warns that flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall remains possible in these locations.

According to the NWS Wilmington NC, excessive runoff could result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying or flood-prone areas.

Potential Impacts and Safety Concerns

Officials urge residents to remain alert for changing weather conditions, especially during nighttime hours. “Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding,” the NWS stated in its update.

Flooding may develop quickly in urban streets, rural roadways, and along small waterways. Motorists are advised to never drive through flooded roads, as water depth and current strength can be deceptive and dangerous.
