1,100 gallons of untreated wastewater discharged into Calabash River

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) – Nearly 1,100 gallons of untreated wastewater were discharged into the Calabash River, according to the Brunswick County Public Utilities.

The discharge originated from a manhole near 1232 Riverview Drive on Monday, Aug. 18, around 9 p.m.

“Brunswick County Public Utilities investigated the site and determined the SSO to have been caused by a power failure of one of the pump stations. County staff began repairing the power to the pump station at approximately 9:30 pm,” said Brunswick County Public Utilities in a news release…
