Police: Video shows Yokeley putting drugs in food

New details have emerged in the case of the former chairman of the Surry County Board of Elections being charged after allegedly slipping illegal narcotics into the food of his granddaughter and her friend.

James Edwin Yokeley Jr., 66, a one-time Surry County Board of Education candidate and chairman of the Board of Elections until he resigned last week under pressure from state officials, has been charged with felony child abuse, felony possession of schedule I narcotics, and with contaminating food, in a case originating in Wilmington.

According to Lt. Greg Willett of the police department there, a probe in the case led investigators to surveillance video shot at a Dairy Queen in Wilmington that fingered Yokeley as the alleged perpetrator…
