Supermoon tides bring coastal flooding to some N.C. beach towns

Parts of Carolina Beach were greeted Wednesday morning with sunny skies and high tides that caused flooded streets.

The full moon and lunar perigee, the time of the moon’s monthly orbit when it is closest to earth, coincided to create these high “supermoon tides.”

The risk of flooding will continue through Sept. 20, the town of Carolina Beach said in a post on Facebook on Tuesday…
