Novant Health Pender Medical Center welcomed two new family medicine residents this summer.
Dr. Hannah Hulshult and Dr. Courtney Caruthers are the first two physicians in a new rural residency program designed to train and retain doctors in communities that need them most.
Hulshult said she attended UNC-Chapel Hill for medical school, which has a campus in Wilmington, and that’s how she learned about the program.
