WILMINGTON, N.C. — Southeastern North Carolina residents can expect a mix of summerlike warmth inland and hazardous beach conditions Saturday, as forecasters warn of a moderate risk of rip currents along the coast.
Hot Inland, Cooler at Coast
The National Weather Service in Wilmington reports that inland highs will climb to between 85°F and 90°F, while coastal areas will stay cooler near 80°F. Morning fog will clear to sunshine, creating a mostly warm and dry day.
Rip Currents Remain Main Concern
A rip current statement remains in effect for beaches in New Hanover and Pender counties, urging swimmers to use caution. Officials recommend checking beach safety flags and swimming near lifeguard stands whenever possible.
“Rip currents can quickly pull swimmers away from shore and are among the most dangerous coastal hazards during the late summer season,” the weather service warned.
Additional Weather Details
A few afternoon showers or thunderstorms may develop, mainly inland across South Carolina. Tonight, partly cloudy skies are expected, with lows in the low-to-mid 60s inland and upper 60s along the coast.
