WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – As powerful Hurricane Gabrielle churns across the North Atlantic this week, Cape Fear surf — especially that of New Hanover and Pender counties — will continue to harbor an elevated rip current risk. Elsewhere in the tropics this week: not one, but two disturbances will have a chance to develop into storms near or north of the Caribbean islands. Thankfully, these items present no Carolina threats at this time; your First Alert Weather Team will advise. Humberto and Imelda are the next 2025 Atlantic storm names.
Will a cold front drive away any tropical threats? Possibly… There is in fact a frontal passage in your First Alert Forecast. Ahead of this front: expect some early fall heat with daily high temperatures pushing 90, nighttime readings only falling to around 70, and isolated showers and storms through midweek. Along the front: Friday will host the week’s highest shower and storm odds — something to stay alert for there. Behind the front: look for rain chances to trend down and daily high temperatures to taper back to the lower 80s over the weekend.
