Wilmington physician agrees to surrender medical license following investigation

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – A Wilmington physician has agreed to surrender his medical license following an investigation by the North Carolina Medical Board.

According to the consent order following the investigation, Dr. Gabe Frank was found to have:

  • Overprescribed testosterone to an 86-year-old male patient.
  • Deliberately ignored abnormal thyroid results in another patient.
  • Treated patients in states where he was not licensed.
  • Authorized expensive MRIs for a Colombian stem-cell operation without proper justification.
  • Allowed an unlicensed medical assistant to inject patients with controlled substances while he was not on site.

The Board stated that Frank was first issued a license to practice medicine on Sept. 27, 2011.

The Board found that Frank’s conduct was a “departure from acceptable and prevailing medical standards.”…
