Venus Flytrap Blooms at the Aquarium

ile they bloom in the spring, it turns out that fall is a wonderful time to welcome the beauty of a Venus flytrap! The Aquarium is thrilled to share this carnivorous plant sculpture with visitors thanks to the generosity of Tony and Camille Loreti. This flytrap is nearly 4 feet tall and has been showcased throughout Carolina Beach as part of the Island Arts Council competition.

The council created several Venus fly traps using a 3D printer and handed them over to artists to craft one-of-a-kind sculptures. Alan Bosivert created the sculpture that caught the attention of the Loretis.

He said, “I chose to use a combination of 2D and 3D mediums. The base of the statue is adorned with sand, seashells, starfish, and coral, giving the illusion of the seabed. Various coral species climb the bottom third of the statue, fading into the water where painted fish and a sea turtle can be seen.”…
