‘The boardwalk is Britt’s Donuts’: Friends and family remember beloved donut shop owner who died at 86

CAROLINA BEACH, N.C. (WECT) – Bobby Nivens, the longtime owner of the famous Britt’s Donuts in Carolina Beach, died Tuesday at 86 years old.

Nivens took over the landmark donut shop in the 1970s and became known for carrying on decades of sweet tradition while keeping things simple — one flavor and cash only.

Carolina Beach Mayor Lynn Barbee, who is cousins with Nivens, said he started working at Britt’s when he was 12 years old…
