Founder, CEO of Helping Hands of the Cape Fear dies at 40

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – A long-time Wilmington resident and founder of Helping Hands of the Cape Fear has died.

The organization announced the death of its founder, Jamie Stokley, on Wednesday, Oct. 29.

“Known for her compassion, tenacity, and devotion to those most in need, Jamie dedicated her life to providing care and dignity for individuals with nowhere else to go,” said a spokesperson with Helping Hands of the Cape Fear. “Through Helping Hands of the Cape Fear, she offered respite housing for unsheltered people recovering from illness or hospitalization, ensuring they had a safe place to heal and a path toward stability.”
