New Hanover County creates food resource website amidst shutdown concerns

NEW HANOVER CO., N.C. (WECT) – New Hanover County, along with community partners, has created a website to address growing public concerns about food security amid the government shutdown.

This follows the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) announcement that SNAP benefits for November will be delayed if the federal shutdown continues.

New Hanover County Social Services and the Office of Civic Engagement are reportedly collaborating with local nonprofits, churches, and food banks to “gather information on what resources are available in the community to address nutritional needs,” according to NHC’s website…
