4 things to know about a new pizza place now open in Carolina Beach

The Wilmington area recently added a new pizza brand. The Connecticut-based Riko’s Pizza restaurant held a grand opening in Carolina Beach in October. It’s among the eateries in the Proximity mixed-used development at 1000 N. Lake Park Blvd., which also includes a K38 Baja Grill, a Drift Coffee & Kitchen and a Boombalatti’s Handcrafted Ice Cream.

The local pizza scene already includes New York style, Detroit style and New Haven style, among others. Riko’s, though, offers what they call an ultra-thin tavern-style pizza. There are now 10 locations, mostly in the Northeast. The Carolina Beach restaurant is the first in North Carolina, but the owners say there will be more to come.

What is tavern style pizza?

Rico Imbrogno, founder and CEO of Riko’s Pizza, said that this thin and crispy style of pie was often served in bars.

“It was something you could put out on the bar and it’s easy to eat,” he said. “There’s no flop.”…
