Recount of votes requested in Southport Alderman Ward 1 race

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) – There will be at least one recount of votes cast in the recent Municipal Elections in southeastern North Carolina.

According to the Brunswick County Board of Elections, Mike Crosbie has filed a request to recount the votes in the Southport Alderman Ward 1 contest. Crosbie finished with an unofficial total of 911 votes, just nine behind incumbent Robert Carroll for the second open seat.

State statute says a candidate in a multi-seat race can request a recount if the difference in the race is ‘not more than one percent (1%) of the votes cast for those two candidates’. With just nine votes separating Carroll and Crosbie, and 1831 votes cast, it falls within the 18 vote margin…
