A Wilmington public housing complex gets a boost for its redevelopment

An old public housing community is going to get a new look.

The Wilmington Housing Authority’s plans to demolish its oldest existing community and redevelop it for a mixed-use/mixed-income development has received a significant boost.

The WHA has been awarded a $5.7 million grant from the New Hanover Community Endowment to fund Phase I of the Hillcrest redevelopment, with the construction of 84 senior rental units.
