CFPUA board opposes Chemours’ expansion, cites PFAS concerns

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – The Cape Fear Public Utility Authority (CFPUA) board has passed a resolution to oppose Chemours’ plans to expand its Fayetteville Works Facility.

In the resolution, CFPUA requests that the NC Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) deny Chemours’ expansion application and require Chemours to stop all operations at Fayetteville Works that lead to any increase in releases, discharges, or air emissions of PFAS.

“Since the 1980s, Chemours and its predecessor DuPont have released PFAS into the Cape Fear River from the Fayetteville Works Facility located upstream from Kings Bluff,” CFPUA wrote in the resolution…
