UNCW students plant bald cypress trees on Battleship grounds

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — On Thursday, the Battleship North Carolina and UNCW students took steps towards preserving the state’s natural history.

Student volunteers lead by their professor Amy Long, planted a series of bald cypress trees across the Battleship property where each seedling carries thousands of years of ecological heritage.

UNCW students planted the young cypress trees in carefully selected locations across the Battleship grounds. The project increases native biodiversity on the grounds and supports long-term shoreline and soil stabilization. Students given the opportunity to learn hands on…
