WINGS Ministry raises $25,000 for ‘Backpack Full of Blessings’ program at annual brunch, auction and fashion show

CALABASH, N.C. (WECT) – WINGS Ministry of Brunswick County, a 501c3 nonprofit, raised an approximate $25,000 at its annual holiday brunch. The money will go towards fighting food insecurity in Southeastern North Carolina.

Through community outreach, Founder Dr. Missy Settlemyre became aware of children in her local community of Shallotte spending the weekend hungry. In 2010, she piloted the Backpack Full of Blessings program. At the time, she was helping 35 local children. Currently, the program serves 600 families weekly while school is in session. WINGS also helps provide meals for students in the summer months as well.
