Community invited to seminar on Fuquay-Varina Interbasin Transfer

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Community members are invited to attend the first Cape Fear River Watch First Saturday Seminar of the new year.

According to event organizers, Cape Fear Public Utility Authority Executive Director Kenneth Waldroup will discuss the possible impacts of the Fuquay-Varina Interbasin Transfer request on the Cape Fear region and share details on what actions local leaders are taking.

Over 20 municipalities, utilities and businesses have already passed resolutions, written letters and submitted official comments to oppose the town’s request to take 6.17 MGD from the Cape Fear River without replacing it, including:

  • New Hanover County Board of Commissioners
  • Wilmington City Council
  • Town of Wrightsville Beach
  • Brunswick County Board of Commissioners
  • Pender County Board of Commissioners
  • Fayetteville Public Works Commission
  • Wilmington-Cape Fear Home Builders Association
  • Cape Fear Realtors
  • N.C. Conservation Network
