Pender Water & Sewer schedules public meeting on Hampstead water treatment plant

HAMPSTEAD, N.C. (WECT) – Pender Water & Sewer will hold a public meeting to discuss the proposed Membrane Water Treatment Plant in Hampstead and address community questions about planned effluent discharge.

The department said it received questions from community members regarding the planned discharge associated with the project, which will range from 150 to 500 gallons per minute, or about 0.3 to 1.1 cubic feet per second.

The discharge originates from deep groundwater and because minerals are naturally concentrated underground, the water is considered brackish and not as seawater-saline…
