BURGAW, N.C. (WECT) – Pender County officials said Monday night they have implemented new security measures after scammers stole more than $650,000 in public funds meant for the Lower Cape Fear Water and Sewer Authority.
The county’s manager, Colby Sawyer, and finance director, Meg Blue, told commissioners Monday the incident was isolated and steps have been taken to prevent future fraud.
“We certainly understand concerns this brings up, but we do routinely prevent this from happening,” Blue said. “We want to assure you we will do everything in our power in the future as well.”…
