Wilmington council unanimously opposes Independence Boulevard extension

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Wilmington City Council voted unanimously to oppose the Independence Boulevard extension, a proposed state project that has been under discussion for more than 50 years to improve north-to-south connectivity.

Councilmember David Joyner said the options presented by the North Carolina Department of Transportation were not realistic for the city.

“The options that DOT is considering don’t make any sense for the city of Wilmington and don’t make sense for the residents that live in this part of Wilmington,” Joyner said…
