WECT INVESTIGATES: Sledge Forest developer faces state complaint

CASTLE HAYNE, N.C. (WECT) – A Castle Hayne resident has filed a complaint with the North Carolina Attorney General’s Office against the developer of a massive project proposed in New Hanover County. The complaint alleges the company falsely advertises a Better Business Bureau accreditation on its website, when it’s not, in fact, accredited.

Scott Gallagher filed the consumer complaint on Jan. 8 against Copper Builders with Attorney General Jeff Jackson’s office after discovering the company displays a BBB accreditation seal on its website despite the BBB’s website saying it’s not currently accredited by the organization.

“My sole purpose was to make the AG aware so that Copper Builders, LLC should remove the BBB from their website as they were in fact not accredited,” Gallagher wrote in an email. “If people are making buying decisions on something as costly as a home, they should be able to know that the organizations listed on a builder’s website are in fact legitimate.”…
