Wilmington man sentenced to over 11 years in prison for habitual larceny

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – A 60-year-old Wilmington man was sentenced to more than 11 years in prison after pleading guilty to 16 counts of habitual larceny from retail stores across the city.

Leon Ross Jr. pleaded guilty last week to charges stemming from thefts that began in November 2024. Under North Carolina law, a person qualifies for habitual larceny charges if they commit any larceny and have been previously convicted of larceny four times.

Ross has multiple felony larceny and misdemeanor larceny convictions, as well as breaking and entering, robbery and assault convictions, according to the North Carolina District Attorney (DA) Jason Smith’s Office.

Wilmington Police Department detectives began investigating Ross after surveillance footage captured him stealing $2,000 worth of merchandise from Lululemon at Mayfaire in November 2024…
