WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – The City of Wilmington has announced steps to protect sensitive communications following reports of cyberattacks targeting local governments in the region.
The city will conduct a security review of its media mailbox system, which provides external access to email. The city will temporarily take the media mailbox offline while the assessment is underway.
“This action is being taken out of an abundance of caution, and there has been no security incident involving the City’s media mailbox. Recent events have shown that public-facing email terminals can create access points that increase risk for residents, employees, and City operations,” city officials wrote in a press release…
