WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – A bicyclist died Friday afternoon after being hit by a vehicle on Market Street, according to the Wilmington Police Department (WPD).
WPD said officers responded to the 6900 block of Market Street shortly before 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 20, following reports of the crash. When they arrived, they found a man lying in the road.
According to information obtained by WECT crews at the scene, the bicyclist was exiting a shopping center near the Waffle House and Food Lion when he attempted to cross the road. A red pickup truck traveling northbound on Market Street struck the bicyclist.
According to WPD, a witness at the scene immediately began lifesaving measures on the man. Despite those efforts, the bicyclist died…
