Canadian pleads guilty to voting illegally in New Hanover elections

A Canadian national who voted in several elections in New Hanover County has pleaded guilty to making false claims of being an American citizen to vote.

Denis Bouchard, 70, has lived in the U.S. since the 1960s, but never obtained American citizenship, according to a news release from the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina. A court record dated Jan. 31 shows Bouchard residing at a Wilmington address.
