WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Wilmington officials are moving forward with plans to replace a 59-year-old bulkhead near the former Coast Guard Cutter Diligence site.
City officials said the bulkhead has reached the end of its lifespan after decades of wear and will be replaced with a modern relieving platform to stabilize the shoreline in a more environmentally friendly way.
“Because of the riverfront’s history as a working harbor, much of the shoreline relies on bulkheads to prevent erosion and support everything happening along the water,” officials wrote on the city’s Facebook page…
