Starting sunrise on March 25, 2026, most shellfish harvesting areas in Brunswick County will reopen after temporary closures earlier in March. The reopening follows satisfactory water quality tests.
However, some waters in New Hanover County remain closed. These include:
- Waters from the Intracoastal Waterway to the mainland between IWW Markers 129 (near Shinn Creek) and 141 (near Peden Point)
- Middle Sound, between the Figure Eight Island Bridge and a line near Shinn Creek
